BC Waters Clean-up Challenge 2010

E-mail Print PDF

Pacific Western Brewery and sister company Natureland Organics announced that partial proceeds from sales of Pacific Pilsner beer and Pureiän Springs water will be donated to marine environment preservation in British Columbia.

The companies have created a $20,000 “BC Waters Clean‐up Challenge” fund. In partnership with BC water stewardship groups, they invite communities throughout the province to apply for funding to clean and preserve their local stream, river or lake.

The sponsors and the Pacific Streamkeepers Federation, the BC Lake Stewardship Society and BC Rivers Day will select one or more community water clean‐up projects with funding and other tools this summer.

Community groups or individuals are invited to apply for funding by sharing their story and clean‐up plan. For more information or to download an application form, visit www.pwbrewing.net/watercleanup/ or www.environmentalharmony.org/watercleanup. The deadline to apply is July 16, 2010.  The selected project(s) will be announced on or before BC Day long weekend, July 31 to August 2.

BCLSS Community Forum 2010

E-mail Print PDF

The BCLSS Community Forum will be held on Vancouver Island this year. The regionally based but provincially relevant event is scheduled for June 4 -6, 2010, featuring the natural splendor, ecology and hospitality of the watershed areas of Quamichan Lake and Somenos Lake in Duncan, BC.

The community forum begins with an evening wine and cheese social at Godfrey-Brownell Winery on Friday, June 4th. Presentations will take place throughout the day on June 5th at the Quw'utsun' Conference Centre, and  will conclude on Sunday June 6th with a half‐day field trip to Quamichan Lake and Somenos Lake.

The goal of this community forum is to bring as many provincially based lake stewardship agencies and associations together to inform and promote the protection and management of lakes in BC. The forum also offers economic benefit to the surrounding community by drawing on local businesses to provide everything from wine and catering to hand‐made speaker's gifts. The Quamichan Watershed Stewardship Committee (Quamichan Stewards) and the Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society are graciously co‐hosting the 2010 event. The Quamichan Stewards formed in 2006 and are working to finalize a Watershed Management Plan for Quamichan Lake. The Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society consists of many individuals who, for more than two decades, have worked together to preserve the Somenos Marsh.
