The Courtenay and District Fish and Game Protective Association, located on the shores of Comox Lake has a membership of approximately 1,100 outdoor enthusiasts.
Mandate: The mandate of he Courtenay and District Fish and Game Protective Association may be found in Article 2 of its Constitution and By-Laws, which states in part:
- To conserve and urge wise use of our natural resources, which includes stable soil, unpolluted water, perpetual forests, vegetation, fish, wildlife, scenic, and recreational reservations;
- To improve and restore fish and game and its habitat;
- To study local resource conditions and to cooperate with the proper authorities in securing conservation plans and measures for the betterment and the benefit of all of the community;
- To support sound conservation and to oppose anti-conservation legislation;
- To pass on to our heirs the joys and privileges of a better outdoors.
Projects:
- In conjunction with the Ministry of the Environment and the Department of Fisheries and Ocean we have completed 2 years of a 3 year study of the water quality of Comox Lake;
- Ongoing foreshore erosion control measures funded, in part, from BC Hydro, with volunteer labour from the Association;
- Member of the Comox-Strathcona Regional District's Comox Lake Watershed Interest Group;
- Member of the Puntledge River Restoration Society;
- Completion of a coho hatchery on the Associations property with major funding from the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
